The Safest Place To Be

Today’s Bible readings are Judges 1:1-2:9, Luke 21:29-22:13, Psalm 90:1-91:16, & Proverbs 13:24-25

Psalm 91:1-2
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

There is a place for you & I to live that will keep us safe from all harm. It is a place that offers protection, rest, & security. It is a place that is available to every believer. It is called the “Secret Place”.

The secret place in the place where we rest in our Father. It is a place where He looks after us & cares for our every need. It is what happens to us when we chose to live in Him. We make the choice to enter into a relationship Him & rest in His loving arms.

In this crazy time that we live in it is great to know that we have a Father who can protect us. With all the talk of war that is going on, we have a place of safety in our God. He protects us so we have nothing to fear.

The enemy loves to sow fear in the hearts of people. He is sometimes successful in sowing fear in the hearts of Christians. But he cannot sow fear in the heart of a believer who is in the secret place. Fear is unable to grip the heart of a person in the secret place because the love & the comfort of the Father guards them.

This psalm goes on to tell us specific things that God will do for the person who enters the secret place. I want to make a list of them for us to meditate on.

1.      He will rescue us from every trap.

2.      He will protect us from deadly diseases.

3.      We don’t have to fear terror or terrorists.

4.      We do not have to be afraid of the things that are happen to the multitudes around us.

These are very encouraging promises for you & me to hold on to. I want to remind you that God is faithful to His promise. He keeps His Word. We have to make sure that we have chosen to enter into His shelter so that we can receive the blessings & provision that comes to those who are in His shelter.

Let’s talk for a moment about how we enter into the secret place.

1.      We rest in His Word.

When life starts to get crazy, rather than getting caught up in the moment or the emotion, we remind ourselves of the promise that God has given us. We then move into a place where we let that promise fill our minds & hearts. It may even be necessary to speak the promise out loud. The more we hear it, the more we will believe it. Tell yourself that you are healed. Tell yourself that you are blessed. Tell yourself that you are free of fear. Tell yourself that you are safe in His shadows.

2.      Surrender to His care.

One of the hardest things for people to do is surrender. It takes great trust to let go & let God. If we are to enter into His shelter & rest we have to trust Him. Trusting God is not as difficult as we make it once we consider the source.

1.      God has never failed.

2.      God can never lie.

3.      God always faithful.

4.      God is stronger than any other.

5.      God loves us & wants the best for us.

Knowing these things about our Father really makes it easier for me to trust Him. He has ever disappointed me. It is like the old hymn says:

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take him at his word;
just to rest upon his promise,
and to know, "Thus saith the Lord."
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!

Always remember, Jesus is worthy of your trust. He has made a place for you in Him where you can share in all that He has to offer. It is our choice of whether or not we will enter. He welcomes us to come live in the shelter of His wings. There we will be safe & sound from all the chaos unraveling around us.
