Dont Fight the Wrong Fight

Today's Bible Reading:
Numbers 36:1-Deuteronomy 1:46,  Luke 5:29-6:11, Psalm 66:1-20
Proverbs 11:24-26

Deu 1:29-30  Then I said to you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.
The Lord your God Who goes before you, He will fight for you just as He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

The Old Testament, or Old Covenant, always points to our Savior & Lord Jesus.  We know that God protects, heals, saves, prospers and gives us victory (Salvation - Isaiah 12:2), but it is very interesting to look back at this Old Covenant and see how this covenant was developed.  The symbolism of the Old Blood Covenant is a very deep subject and we do not have time to cover all of it, but I will suggest a book for you to read called "The Scarlet Thread".  You will receive some amazing revelation in the Word about your Covenant with Jesus when you read this book.

Today, we will focus on an example of a "Love Covenant" between young David and Jonathan in 1 Samuel 18:1-5, and show how this is a pattern in early covenants between two people and between people and God.  One part of this covenant establishes a promise to fight alongside, or in the place of, their covenant partner.

1Sa 18:1-5  And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.  And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.  Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.  And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.  And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.

This was a common ritual in those days where two people would exchange items that represent something, and we are focusing on the Sword & Bow.  They promised to fight for each other unto the death.  The only reason you would die for someone is because of Love.  See in verse 1 how Jonathan loved as his own soul.

We have received two commandments from Jesus that frees us from the burdens of trying to keep the Ten Commandments in our own strength, and that is to Love God with our whole heart, soul & body and to Love our neighbor as our own self.  This is exactly what was happening here between Jonathan and David.

So as we obey what Jesus told us to do, which are our only responsibilities in our Love Covenant with Jesus, He does the fighting for us too!

1Pe 5:6-7  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

You can't do the fighting in your strength.  Humble Yourself!  You were not built to carry the cares of this world, it can make you sick, weak, tired and lets look at what Jesus said it will do to your ability to produce fruit:

Mar_4:19  And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

How do I cast my cares on the Lord?  What does that mean?

I'm glad  you asked!
Pray!  OUT LOUD!  Say: "Lord, I place this (whatever problem you have - forgiveness, sickness, whatever) at your feet.  You do the fighting for me on this!  I cannot do this.  It is in your hands."

Jesus said if you can Say It, then you ALREADY have the faith for it!!!

Mat_17:20  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

The ONLY fighting we are to be doing is the Fight of Faith:  Speaking & Believing!!!
